Our state-of-the-art technology allows us to see movies with the best graphics and technology. Being a transformer's fan and a all around 80's kid I loved this movie!! When it started with the brother of the lead character having SICKLE CELL grabbed my attention immediately.
I was so happy to hear and see it on such a big franchise's platform and in a huge movie! Besides the battles it was such a metaphoric visual and what we do as caregiver's of the family we have with SCD. The facts is we will go to all ends of the earth and beyond to protect our family. The characters fought with unparalleled precision and accuracy, leading to a fight for the world and in the end his brother got some good SCD healthcare.
One of the trio in one of the best girl groups in music who has sickle cell that could fit in several categories like RnB or hip hop. Tionne "T-BOZ" Watkins of TLC started to get treatment who was diagnosed at 7 years according to many articles and interviews including People Magazine (people.com).
This is very late in a child's life to begin care. I discovered my son had sickle cell during his newborn screening when they pricked his foot and I knew when he was 3 days old. Early detection can protect the person from suffering from a chronic undiagnosed and untreated illness.
This is why our researchers are dedicated to advancing awareness of SCD and educate the community for better living, alternative diets, holistic healing combined with medicine and improving the SCD patient outcomes through innovative research.
We know most men love sports, and being an SCD patient can discourage those goals at times but it is not impossible. This is Tiki Barber a running back for the New York Giants in the NFL. He started "Be Sickle Smart" national campaign that encourages those SCD individuals who gets blood transfusions to monitor their iron levels. He is also the ONLY KNOWN football player to have SCD.
My son is one of those patients who has to get a transfusion every month because he had a stroke due to sickle cell when he was only 18 years old. That was ten years ago, and now we monitor his iron levels because we do not want him to get IRON OVERLOAD. Sickle Cell Kidd and other organizations like his will continue to ensure that our research and information aligns with the needs and awareness for the SCD community.
All of our research is focused on improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Prodigy a rapper and producer and the other half of Mobb Deep was diagnosed as an infant in the 70's and he grew up in Queens, New York. He attended the High School of Art in Manhattan and met his music partner Havoc and they became a duo. He wrote an autobiography in 2011 and co-wrote another in 2013 and also co-wrote a cookbook in 2016.
Growing up in this rap era and watching the transition it's all love and with change comes differences but it's all art and a form of expression which as a writer I loved how used his pen to transition and tap into another lane. We prioritize the needs and perspectives by having creative outlets and channeling your pain in all aspects of your life, and work to let your voice be heard for the sickle cell community. #restinparadiseProdigy
We are at the forefront of cutting-edge and we all know you have to have that mentality in the NBA well this is Billy Garret, Jr who was diagnosed at birth like my son but he is the first player in history of the NBA/TBT to have sickle cell . He decided he would beat the odds and help his family by making it to the NBA.
He had an excellent high school career with a awesome breakout season and then he had a really bad sickle cell crisis and he started to feel pain in his knee which became hospitalized and his life was in danger but once healed he decided to finish the season. He did eventually make history with the G-League and got a 10--day contract with the Knicks in April 2019 where he averaged 6.5 pints per game.
He used his platform and created SCD HOOPS for TBT 2021. This is a great way and we encourage awareness and SCD education in a variety of areas, including schools, work place, family, and more.
It's been said that King Tut's parents might have been brother and sister he may have also had sickle cell disease and suggested he died of malaria and a bone disorder. He also had a curved spine, a cleft palate which is why he had so many severe genetic disorders. A study showed by some German scientists that he spent much of his life in pain before dying at 19.
Just some history and how far Sickle cell goes back and now the development industry to advance the SCD hematology and genetic field and bring new treatments and technologies to SCD patients around the world.
Working over 7 years professionally educating in the Memphis. Tn, Atlanta Ga. and California as a Vitamin Manager with Sprouts Farmer's Market. This allowed me to train with brand creators, vendors, attend conferences for natural alternative's in Dallas Texas called SproutsCon three years so far where thousands of natural brands owners, promoters, creators educate and show their products.
Our research in facilities equipped with the latest vitamins and supplements information on products, read the labels and research. Helping to understand ingredients allows us to conduct explanation of benefits that can be groundbreaking research and make new discoveries for the SCD community.
Chlorophyll has many benefits that could help symptoms for someone with sickle cell. You get chlorophyll from green leafy herbs and plants (that is where they get their green color from it is food for plants and has medicinal benefits for humans). This can help in wellness in multiple ways like it's a natural deodorant that helps internally. Research has found it reduces inflammation and it functions as an antioxidant which can prevent or delay of cell damage.
What I found that is interesting and beneficial to the SCD community is the benefits for the hemoglobin. Through research it was shown that chlorophyll and hemoglobin are similar by being an oxygen carrying protein found in red blood cells that distributes the oxygen to the rest of the body and in some cases can even imitate hemoglobin's actions. This can benefit someone with an iron deficiency. This has been used to treat all types of anemia and blood disorders with low red blood cell counts.
I always encourage to do your own research and cross reference with whatever other supplement, medications you are taking and only you know truly what you are putting inside of your body so do your research. This is a very natural alternative which I absolutely approve my SCD family to explore and include in their wellness routine.
